What is a bible college?
Definition of a bible College
A bible College is a higher education institution that majors specifically in biblical studies. The curriculum of a Bible College institution is entirely Bible-Based and is very different from the curriculum of a research-based or liberal arts college. There is a huge difference between a Bible College and a Faith-based College, for example the difference between Dallas Christian College and Villanova University in that a faith-based college offers the opportunity for learners to grow spiritually alongside taking other courses, hence doesn’t major in biblical studies.
A faith-based institution enriches the students spiritually as they undertake other courses while a bible college enriches students spiritually as they undertake and expound on biblical studies. Most bible colleges do not offer the study of philosophy and just like theological colleges, the bible colleges are mostly undergraduate colleges.
Bible College Affiliations
Bible colleges are associated mostly with evangelical Protestant Churches and their main aim is to prepare learners for roles in Christian Ministry. It’s no wonder the curriculum used at Bible Colleges is normally complemented by tailored and structured Christian service programs.
Bible College Programs
In most cases, Bible colleges are accredited to award certificates, associates, diplomas, and/or bachelor’s degrees in Christian Ministry and Biblical studies. On the side, some institutions also provide supplementary training or various degree programs in Christian ministry-related areas, but those that have secular application like church music and Christian education.
Examples of some Bible Colleges include:-
Lancaster Bible & Graduate School
Dallas Christian College
Bible College Accreditation
Just like any other institution of higher learning, each country has a unique governmental requirement that has to be met for accreditation. For instance, the Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE) accredits majority of the Bible Colleges in the US. However, this doesn’t limit accreditation to the body only as they can equally be accredited by regional accreditors, the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools, as well as International accreditors.
Important to note is that some institutions, due to the nature of their religious programs, lack accreditation from the government, as it is sometimes believed having an independent body would compromise the mission of the institution.
