Liberty University was established in 1971 in Lynchburg, Virginia, and they have been helping to pioneer online learning since 1985. They are considered a Best Buy University with one of the lowest tuition prices in the country. To subsidize the cost of tuition even further, over 97% of students receive some sort of financial aid assistance.
Liberty has more than 45 online programs with over 100 concentrations. They offer everything from high school programs to doctorate level programs. There are three terms per academic year. Each term consists of three sub terms, with one being 16 weeks and two being 8 weeks. Programs are typically 100% online, although a few may require a short campus based intensive.
Grand Canyon University has also been ranked at the top of the list of online universities. It was established in 1946 in Phoenix, Arizona. Similar to Liberty, Grand Canyon wished to make higher education accessible to everyone. They have frozen tuition rates for their current and incoming students until 2012. There are three 16 week terms, with each term containing two 8 week sub terms. You can earn a degree from everything from Fire Science to Christian leadership.
